LOS ANGELES, CA (February 2, 2026) – Los Angeles Nomadic Division (LAND) is pleased to announce the opening of Lauren Halsey’s sculpture park and monument to South Central Los Angeles, on view March 14, 2026 through November 2027. Titled sister dreamer, lauren halsey’s architectural ode to tha surge n splurge of south central los angeles, the site augments Halsey’s world-building practice that melds architecture and sculpture, and serves as a tribute to the neighborhood she and her family have lived in for generations. The sculpture park exemplifies LAND’s continued vision to empower artists with the support to experiment and bring large-scale visionary works to life, simultaneously creating public access to immersive artistic experiences throughout Los Angeles.

“I grew up on Western Avenue, in the area surrounding sister dreamer. It was and still is a beautiful environment, a place and time of joy, genius, and freedom,” said Lauren Halsey. “Throughout my life, many buildings were burned down, abandoned, left empty. Yet what always stood out to me were the people who informally activated these open spaces: selling Christmas trees, running ad-hoc barbecue pop ups, holding church services, or using it as an ephemeral space to sell hundreds of mix CDs. The community understood that these empty lots could be used for different functions and needs. And it is this same ingenuity, imaginative capacity, and everyday brilliance that sister dreamer celebrates and is focused on activating for others in my community.”

“It’s been a privilege to work in support of Lauren Halsey and her incomparable vision to present sister dreamer. Our work at LAND would not be possible without artists like her, who understand art-making as both commemorative and life-affirming, urgent and community-serving,” said Laura Hyatt, Director of LAND. “Alongside Lauren and the project’s dedicated collaborators, we believe that sister dreamer will become a significant communal gathering space that represents new horizons for contemporary art and architecture.”

sister dreamer is LAND’s most ambitious commissioned project to date, and represents an unprecedented collaboration in living architecture. Located on the corner of Western Avenue and 76th Street in South Central LA, the work invites residents and community members to envision what creative innovation can look like outside of traditional venues for contemporary art. Halsey, her non-profit Summaeverythang Community Center, and LAND share in the belief that robust artistic practices can be born from the beauty of everyday environments and experiences, carving out new approaches to art-making in the local region and beyond.

sister dreamer is a monumental project and sculpture park that uniquely bridges art, architecture, storytelling and green space. Lauren Halsey’s commitment to her vision, capacity to work at an immense scale, prioritization of local interests and needs, and founding of Summaeverything Community Center have laid the groundwork for an expansive model of artist engagement and contemporary art practice in artists’ own neighborhoods and communities,” said Christine Y Kim, Curator of sister dreamer.

Originally conceived by the artist in 2006 while Halsey was an architecture student, sister dreamer continues the dynamic interplay between personal, family, and collective memory that has been at the core of her practice for over fifteen years. The site will utilize architecture clad with concrete panels, and comprise a courtyard with six water features, fruit trees, vegetables, and plants native to the surrounding area. Elements of the park will also feature eight Sphinxes and eight Hathoric columns at two entrances. These statues and areas of the park will be inscribed with signs and symbols from South Central, as well as the artist’s personal heroes, family friends, community activists, and organizers.

In addition to its skillful hybridization of art and architecture, sister dreamer will also include adedicated programming space for on-site film screenings, health and wellness events, community-centric celebrations, jazz nights, sport activations, lecture series, tutoring, and youth- engaged programs, conceived and led by Halsey’s nonprofit organization, Summaeverythang Community Center. More details on these programs will be announced soon.
